Inspired
by the growth, pride and support prevalent in Chatham, several
local Chatham businessmen formed the Chatham Business Association
(CBA) in 1972 in order to satisfy the Chatham Community's
desire to invest in, nurture and protect the Chatham Community.
The stated purpose was to "band together to foster, create
and explore those plans and programs that will insure the
stablilty and growthof our business comminties."
CBA maintains a Small Business Development Center and a local
development corporation, certified by the Small Business Administration,
to assist area businesses in securing funds for acquisition,
expansion and renovation of business properties.

A strong and active business association is needed to insured
social, political, and economic growth. For these reasons, we
come together to explore, create develop and install plans and
programs that will insure the safety, the economic wealth, the
educational excellence, and the political stability of Chatham
and surrounding communities.
To facilitate economic growth
in
the Chatham-Avalon comercial and residential areas and contiguous
communities; To encourage the creation and growth of new businesses
in the Chatham, Avalon and contiguous neighborhoods.
To assemble community businesses and professional
people
to develope programs that will insure economic
wealth, political, stability and residents of the Chatham-Avalon
area and surrounding communities.
